During the last years, things have become increasingly quiet around KittMedia. This is mainly through a shift of mine from the WoltLab Suite towards WordPress. However, this project is still pretty much alive.
When I announced leaving the WoltLab ecosystem regarding our commercial products two years ago, a major pillar on which the project is based on has been removed. Since then, I mainly focussed on my WordPress products and website.
When in January this year I tried to publish more blog posts here, I failed miserably. I just underestimated the effort required to post here more frequently, since the blog posts planned are far larger than my usual posts e.g. on Epiphyt. I still have some blog posts in the making, but won’t promise anything here.
Rebranding
As you may seen if you’ve visited this website the last years and remember its look, there has been a redesign underway. This is what I was mostly working on when I did something for KittMedia in the background.
The new logo
For the first time since KittMedia exists (not counting “KittBlog Stile” before), there is a new logo for this project. And while I don’t dislike the old one, I love the new one! 😍
It has the same design language as the logo of Epiphyt does (of course, it’s from the same graphic designer 🤗) and represents a new era of KittMedia. It’s now consistent with the font of the website, using Source Sans Pro, too, and gets rid of the layer icon of the old logo, which was representing the focus on designs, which is no more part of the project.
Instead, it represents the flexibility and modern approach of KittMedia.
The new design
The design got an overhaul as well and is a consequent development towards more refinement and with a little bit more design highlights and eye catchers. It was the work of 7 months improving on the previous design. And even though it lacks a light mode for the moment, it’s more inclusive and accessible, hopefully without any problem to anyone impaired by a disability. I did my best to make sure it works for everyone.
Redefining the purpose
By removing the products regarding the WoltLab Suite I was torn back and forth between two possible ways what to do with the project: either remove it entirely (or at least big parts of it) or redefine its purpose. As the rebranding already makes it clear: removing it was not a real option. I’ve changed the name to KittMedia in 2014, and now, 11 years later, it’s still a thing.
The purpose will more shift towards an overview of my services, being services around WoltLab Suite or WordPress. This way, it is more clear what services I provide and what they include.
Additionally, I’ve included a whole shop system to use for my individual contract work to make accounting easier for me as well as finally being able providing SEPA Direct Debit or other payment methods (e.g. Apply Pay and Credit Card) for services – including hosting (the latter only on the German version of the website). 🥰
